Hello, homemaker!
Lately, I’ve been putting much more intention into caring for our health at home—going back to simple, natural ingredients whenever I can so we don’t have to rely so heavily on the pharmacy.
Now, I want to say this clearly: I am not a doctor, and I don’t have a medical degree. But as I said before, I do believe there is real value in natural remedies. In our home, I like them to be our first line of defense before turning to prescriptions—when it makes sense.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself experimenting more in the kitchen. I’ve made homemade cough drops, a soothing fermented garlic honey syrup, and we’ve been enjoying lots of probiotic-rich drinks and yogurt.
And today, I added something new to our routine—these bright, zesty, immune-supporting wellness shots.
I originally made them for my husband… but now I find myself reaching for one every single day.

The Ingredients
One of the things I love most about this recipe is how each ingredient brings something special to the table.
Ginger
Known for its warming properties, ginger is wonderful for digestion and can help soothe nausea. It also has natural anti-inflammatory benefits.
Turmeric
This vibrant golden root is famous for its anti-inflammatory properties. It’s often used to support joint health and overall wellness.
Lemon
Fresh lemon juice is rich in vitamin C and helps support the immune system. It also adds that refreshing tang.
Orange
Oranges bring natural sweetness along with even more vitamin C, making these shots both delicious and nourishing.
Black Pepper
Black pepper acts as a "catalyst" for nutrient absorption. It also offers signifiant anti-inflammatory benefits, boosting the effectiveness of this wellness shot.
Honey
While this is optional, you can add honey to sweeten it.
Together, they create a beautiful balance of spicy, tangy, and slightly sweet.

- 1–2 inches fresh turmeric root (or 1 teaspoon ground turmeric)

Equipment
Instructions
Prep your ingredients
Peel the oranges, lemon, ginger and turmeric (if using fresh). Chop them into smaller pieces for easier blending.
Blend everything together
Blend the ingredients, with a cup of water, together using food processor or blender. Blend until smooth.
Strain (optional)
If you prefer a smoother shot, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
Set aside the pulp, store it in an ice cube container and freeze it to use later for tea. Simply pop one or two out and dilute in a cup of hot water. Stir and drink!

Store properly
Pour into a glass jar or small bottles and store in the refrigerator for up to 3–5 days.
Serve
Shake well and drink (1 small bottle) daily.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add other ingredients to these wellness shots?
Yes, absolutely—that’s one of the things I love most about making these at home. You can easily customize based on what you have or what your body needs.
Some simple additions you might try:
- Black pepper – just a pinch helps your body absorb turmeric better
- Apple cider vinegar – adds a tangy kick and supports digestion
- Cayenne pepper – for an extra warming, immune-boosting effect
- Pineapple – for natural sweetness and added enzymes
- Mint leaves – for a refreshing twist
I like to keep mine simple most days, but it’s nice to switch things up every now and then.
Can I use ground ginger or turmeric instead of fresh?
You can, especially if that’s what you have on hand. Fresh root gives a brighter, stronger flavor, but ground versions still work.
If using ground:
- Use about 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- Use about ½–1 teaspoon ground turmeric
Just be sure to shake well before drinking, as powders tend to settle.
Do I have to strain the mixture?
Not at all. This really comes down to personal preference.
- If you prefer a smoother, juice-like shot, go ahead and strain it.
- If you don’t mind the pulp (and want the extra fiber), you can leave it as is.
In our home, we do both depending on the day.
How long do these wellness shots last?
Stored in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator, they typically last 3 to 5 days.
I like to make smaller batches more often so everything stays fresh.
When is the best time to take a wellness shot?
I usually take mine in the morning, especially on an empty stomach, but there’s no strict rule.
Some people prefer:
- Morning for a fresh start
- Midday for a little boost
- At the first sign of feeling run down
Listen to your body and find what works best for you.
Can kids take these wellness shots?
Because of the strong flavor (especially ginger and turmeric), kids may find them a bit intense.
If you’d like to share with them, you can:
- Add more orange or pineapple to sweeten
- Dilute with a little water
- Start with a very small amount
As always, use your judgment and what feels right for your family.
Can I make this without honey?
Yes! The honey is completely optional.
If you prefer, you can:
- Leave it out entirely
- Substitute with maple syrup
- Add sweeter fruits like pineapple or extra orange
Can I freeze wellness shots?
Yes, you can!
One of my favorite tricks is pouring the mixture into ice cube trays. Once frozen, you can:
- Pop one out and let it thaw overnight
- Blend into smoothies
- Dilute with warm water for a quick drink
It’s such a simple way to always have some on hand.
A Gentle Reminder
While I truly enjoy making and using natural remedies in our home, I always keep things in balance. These wellness shots are not a cure or replacement for medical care—but they can be a beautiful, supportive addition to a healthy lifestyle.
Final Thoughts
Making these wellness shots is one small way I care for my family using simple, natural ingredients.
It doesn’t take much—just a few fresh items and a few minutes in the kitchen.
And for me, that’s reason enough to keep making them.
Have you tried making your own wellness shots at home? I’d love to hear what ingredients you like to use!
