Natural Homemade Blush Balm Recipe

Published: Nov 7, 2025 by Jane · This post may contain affiliate links ·

Hello, homemaker!

Lately, I’ve been really slowing down. I’ve been embracing the quiet beauty of simple living: baking from scratch, spending more time with my kid or in nature, and swapping out my commercial beauty products for natural, homemade alternatives.

If I’m being honest, my goal is to live more sustainably. I want to know what goes into the things I use every day, including what I put on my skin. So, I started learning how to make easy skincare essentials—from soaps and body butters to shampoos and now, this beautiful homemade blush balm that you can also use as a tinted lip balm. I can't believe I actually made a blush product I genuinely love!

I don't know about you, but for me, creating my own self-care essentials feels like bringing a touch of simplicity and intention back into my daily routine. If I could, I would make everything that my family and I use — that way, I know exactly what goes into our bodies and on our skin.

My newest obsession is this homemade blush balm! It’s creamy, nourishing, and gives that perfect rosy flush that looks like you’ve just come in from a walk in the garden. Plus, it’s ridiculously easy to make and completely customizable depending on your favorite shades and scents.

Why Make Your Own Blush Balm?

If you’re like me, you probably love knowing what’s in the products you use on your skin. Commercial blushes often contain unnecessary fillers, preservatives, and artificial colors. When you make your own, you control every ingredient — and you can choose natural, nourishing ones that actually benefit your skin. And honestly? It's so much cheaper to make it than buying from the store!

This recipe is perfect for anyone who wants a hint of color with a touch of moisture — almost like a tinted lip balm, but for your cheeks. And, really, it's so easy to make! I am even making more to give away to friends and family during the holidays.

What You’ll Need

Ingredients:

  • 8 grams beeswax pellets (or candelilla wax for vegan version)
  • 40 grams shea butter or cocoa butter
  • 16 grams jojoba oil, almond oil, or coconut oil
  • 0.65 grams vegetable glycerine
  • 1 teaspoon tint ( I used mica powder. You can use ½ teaspoon mica powder and ½ teaspoon rose clay powder which you can buy from Amazon. Beetroot powder is also a great natural tint option)
  • A few drops of essential oil (optional — vanilla, lavender or rose are lovely)

You’ll also need:

  • A small heatproof bowl
  • Microwave or a double boiler setup (or just a pot and a glass jar) if you're not using microwave
  • A small tin or lip balm tube for storage

I often get asked where I get my homemaking or kitchen tools from. Most of my homemaking tools are from Temu —you'll love the prices!

Directions

  1. Melt the base ingredients.
Combine the beeswax and butter in a heatproof bowl, and microwave for 20 seconds until melted. You could also use a double boiler ( or just a pot and heatproof bowl.) Set it over simmering water and stir until everything melts into a smooth, liquid blend.
  2. Add your tint.
Once melted, add the jojoba oil and mix. Then, quickly stir in your natural colorant — I used two shades of mica powder, about ½ teaspoon each, but I highly recommend starting small! Test a bit on your skin to see the tint, and adjust as needed. You can always add more mica or beetroot powder until you achieve your desired blush tone.
  3. Add essential oils (optional).
If you want a subtle scent or skin benefits, add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil. Mix well.
  4. Pour and set.
Carefully pour the liquid balm into your container. Let it cool completely before sealing. Once it sets, you’ll have a soft, creamy blush ready to use!

How to Use It

Swipe a small amount onto your fingertips and gently dab onto your cheeks (and lips, if you’d like). The warmth of your skin helps it blend beautifully. You’ll get a healthy, natural glow that feels light, not greasy.

Voila! This is how it looks on my skin and I am loving it! 🙂

Ever since I started making my own skincare, I’ve felt a deeper connection to the process of homemaking — that slow, intentional rhythm of creating what you need from simple, wholesome things. This little blush balm feels like a tiny luxury I made with my own hands — and I think you’ll love it just as much.

Give it a try, homemaker. Your skin (and your heart) will thank you
